A Storied Landmark Steeped in Southern Heritage

Perched on the slope of a towering hill in the village of Bani Saar, just north of Al Baha city, Bin Raqoush Palace stands as a testament to nearly two centuries of rich cultural legacy. Built in 1834, this historic site was once a complete residential complex encompassing family homes, guesthouses, and the influential “Zahran” tribal council.

Two Centuries of Southern Grandeur

The palace’s construction unfolded in two distinct phases. The first phase established the Maritime House, which featured a council chamber, a weapons depot, a library, sleeping quarters, family lounges, a Damascus-style guest room, a mosque, a central kitchen, servants' quarters, and a deep water well, forming a self-sufficient residential system.

The second phase began in 1939, expanding the estate with the Eastern Guesthouse, the Middle House, and the Reform House. These additions completed the palace's transformation into a secure and functional fortress, offering refuge, hospitality, and governance for the tribes of the region.
