Located in Riyadh Al Khabra in the Al Qassim Region, Al Nafid Heritage Village reflects a long-standing relationship between people, land, and earth.

Here, mud is more than a building material. It becomes a way of preserving stories from the past. Every wall bears the marks of time, and every passage holds memories of lives shaped by simplicity and closeness to nature.

The village’s mud-brick buildings were originally constructed to protect residents from heat and rain. Over time, they came to represent a way of life rooted in balance and harmony with the environment. In Al Nafid, architecture was never separate from daily life; homes were an extension of family, routine, and community.

This deep connection between people and place creates a sense of calm and familiarity, allowing visitors to feel at ease, as though returning to a place long remembered.

The Visitor Experience

A visit to Al Nafid Heritage Village offers insight into the social and architectural roots of the region. The village is made up of around 60 traditional mud-brick houses, surrounded by old farms that reflect the Najdi way of life as it once was.

The village’s origins date back to around 1260 AH, when Sheikh Mohammed bin Khudair purchased a farm known as Areekana, later called Qaleeb Al Khudair or Al Khudair Farm.

Around 1310 AH, Sheikh Abdullah Al Othman Al Khudair established another farm in the northeastern part of the land, near a small sand dune that became a defining landmark. Locals began referring to the area as Al Nafid, a name that later extended to the entire village.

Today, the experience goes beyond learning about history. Walking through the mud-brick houses and surrounding farms offers a quiet, sensory visit that reconnects visitors with Najdi architecture and a simpler way of living.
